I Don’t Know WHAT To Call This…Except PATHETIC

There is definitely a disease circling the globe. I’m not sure what the disease is, but a few things come to mind: greed, litigation lawyers, nannies, political correctness, sheer stupidity. Sheer stupidity seems to be the closest I can come to this latest bit out of the UK.

Fortunately I know most Brits are not idiots, being a direct decendent of a Brit myself, but apparently they are also catching these deadly diseases that are plaguing us all…at least the common average person there agrees with me too (read the comments at the bottom of the page in the link):

A LUXURY ice cream chain is refusing to pour chocolate sauce and other toppings over its cones because of health and safety fears.

In another example of nanny state rules blighting Britain, world-famous Morellis Gelato claims its popular toppings pose a serious hazard to the public if they fall on the floor.

The Italian chain, with parlours at Harrods and Selfridges in London and on the seafront in the well-to-do resort of Broadstairs, Kent, has banned staff adding little extras because customers might slip over.

Instead they are given the ice cream with the topping – such as chocolate and strawberry sauce, chopped nuts and pieces of fresh fruit – served in a separate tub.

Last night campaigners against political correctness were outraged at how the compensation culture and fears over health and safety have infiltrated every part of British life. John Midgley, of the Campaign Against Political Correctness, said: “What’s the world coming to when you are not allowed to put a bit of chocolate sauce on a cone? It’s symptomatic of the compensation culture age in which we are living.”

Last night angry ice cream lovers at the Morellis parlour in Broadstairs said health and safety was taking the fun out of the seaside.

  1. I posted this on Doc’s, but it’s really applicable here:

    HOUSE BILL NO. 282

An act to prohibit certain food establishments from serving food to any person who is obese, based on criteria prescribed by the state department of health; to direct the department to prepare written materials that describe and explain the criteria for determining whether a person is obese and to provide those materials to the food establishments; to direct the department to monitor the food establishments for compliance with the provisions of this act; and for related purposes. Be it enacted by the legislature of the state of Mississippi:

  2. This is simply too sad for words. Can they actually believe that by giving the customer the ingredients they are safer than the staff putting the stuff on it themselves? Talk about dumbing down! This is not logical at all! They should fire the president of the corporation, and anyone else who had this brilliant idea, and get a grip on something besides themselves!
