President’s Day And The Constitution

I don’t own a gun, I’ve never even touched one. The closest I’ve ever come to a gun was standing next to a Policeman on a NYC subway shortly after that horrendous 2001 incident in NYC (I’m so tired of that expression I can’t even say it).

I spent my life with my head in the sand. I didn’t have much respect for the NRA back then, for I just didn’t see the need for Americans to have to have automatic weapons. I surely didn’t believe, and still don’t, that hunters need automatic weapons. I didn’t believe average citizens needed guns anymore as we didn’t hunt for our food, and had a police force. More stupidly I also felt we had no need to protect ourselves with guns. To me gun control meant the end of guns on the street. I was all for gun control, naively thinking that such restrictions would actually have a real impact on cutting down crimes and such.

It’s only as I’ve gotten older, and wiser as the saying goes, that I’ve realized just how dumb I really was about our Constitution and our right to own and bear arms. As I got older I realized that disarming average citizens just made us easier targets for the criminals who would always have a way to get guns illegally, and automatic weapons particularly; not to mention make it easier for some power hungary official to use the Military to subdue and control the citizens of this land.

More recently, I’ve come to understand the real meaning of the 2nd Amendment to our Constitution:

Amendment II

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The Supreme Court recognizes the importance of this amendment, at least they have so far:

“The militia is the natural defense of a free country against sudden foreign invasions, domestic insurrections, and domestic usurpation of power by rulers. The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of the republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally … enable the people to resist and triumph over them.” Joseph Story, Supreme Court Justice, Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States, p. 3:746-7, 1833

The Militia talked about in the Constitution was not about any Military group; and it is not our current day Military. When the Constitution was drafted, the Militia WAS the average citizen. Our founding fathers had the forsight to understand there might be those who come to power who would try to rule us with an iron fist.

I finally understand why the NRA is as vocal as they are. I finally understand why they push as hard as they do to fight draconian “gun control” laws. While they may also have their own selfish reasons – don’t we all at times – they are fighting to protect our Constitutional “right to own and bear arms”. Makes you stop and wonder why our elected officials, sworn to uphold the Constitution, are continually trying to dismantle it. Doesn’t it?

Here’s an interesting article to read (full of various, relevent links):

How many billions of words have been written about our individual right to own and bear arms? Ten thousand plus are in the links section below; my CD also has a huge section on this unalienable right given to us from the blood of patriots. The Internet has thousands of pages devoted to the Second Amendment and its twenty-seven words: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

How many court cases have been fought over the past fifty years to stop “reasonable” gun laws passed which restrict our individual right to own and bear arms? Law libraries are filled to the ceiling just on Second Amendment cases alone. DC v Heller is the latest with the Bush Administration submitting a brief that should stun any gun owner who voted for Bush:

Public ‘threatened’ by private-firearms ownership

Government argues gun restrictions ‘permitted by the 2nd Amendment’
“Since “unrestricted” private ownership of guns clearly threatens the public safety, the 2nd Amendment can be interpreted to allow a variety of gun restrictions, according to the Bush administration. The argument was delivered by U.S. Solicitor General Paul D. Clement in a brief filed with the U.S. Supreme Court in the ongoing arguments over the legality of a District of Columbia ban on handguns in homes, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times. Clement suggested that gun rights are limited and subject to “reasonable regulation” and said all federal limits on guns should be upheld.”
Clement is a fool and a tool of tyrants.

In the past ten days, we’ve had a string of shootings on school campuses, the latest being one more legally drugged American. Another “gun free” zone, the meaning of which Dr. Edwin Vieira has crystallized in his scholarly columns and why they contribute to these massacres.

Old timers like yours truly have been aware of the Department of State Publication 7277 for decades. The communist UN (United Nations), a privately run operation that has never kept peace anywhere in the world, has been unabashed in their efforts to get your guns. Banks and retailers over the years have attempted to curtail the legal commerce of guns. Here’s the most recent: Citibank Refusing to Process Firearms Related Transactions: “Charlie Crawford, president of CDNN Sports Inc., explained: “We were contacted recently by First Data/Citi Merchant Services by a June Rivera-Mantilla stating that we were terminated and funds were being seized for selling firearms in a non-face-to-face transaction. Although perfectly legal, we were also informed that no transactions would be processed in the future, even for non-firearms.”

If you really believe in your God-given right to own and bear arms, stop doing any business with Citibank and tell them why. If you continue to do business with your enemy, you enrich them financially and validate their corporate positions, i.e., denying a legal business the right to conduct its operations. How many more “alerts” are you going to read and then just go back to whatever you were doing? Reading educates, but its action that will save this republic. And, by the way, how many gun owners are going to vote for Marxist Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama? No one can question Clinton’s hatred of the U.S. Constitution, but how about the newly minted ‘Messiah’ now causing his cult-like followers to swoon? These are accurate examples of Obama’s ignorance regarding the Second Amendment:

Hunting for a position: Obama misses 2nd Amendment
Obama’s gun record is just simply atrocious

Today is President’s Day. The day we set aside for George Washington’s and Abraham Lincoln’s birthdays. George Washington was our first President and fought to make this country free from the then tyrannical ruling of Great Britain. Allowing our Constitution to be dismantled by those wanting to control us, forcing us into submission to their will, we dishonor those who in the past fought to create this Constitutional Republic we call the United States of America, and all the ones who followed in fighting to protect our “Liberty and Freedom”. We also fail to protect something very precious handed down to us, generation to generation for the past 200+ years.

President Bush is right about ONLY one thing…..we ARE in a war of terror. Except he is wrong about who the enemy really is. The enemy is not some outside extremist; the enemy is within. It is our elected officials trying to harm us by dismantling our Constitution. It is “WE THE PEOPLE” who sit back and allow them to do this by blindly accepting that it’s all being done to “protect us”, “for our own good”, “keeping us safe”. And no one knows how well to use these terms deceptively than our elected officials. They are very good when it comes to word/phrase manipulation. Of course having dumbed us down and numbed us with the constant barrage of nonsense we are told on the news by the corporate controlled media…….it’s been relatively easy for them to do that. Shame on us.

Don’t go quietly into the night as good sheep to the slaughter, be the shepherd your founding fathers were and fight to protect your freedom, your liberty, your right to live as you choose, and more importantly your country.

If you do nothing else this President’s Day, stop for a moment and honor those who helped this country become “Land of the Free and Home of the Brave”, and do your part to live up to that.
