Your Body Will Belong To The State

I’ll just bet. like me, you thought your body was yours. Go on, you can admit it. Well, guess what? Looks like that’s not entirely true. This seems to me to also be another assault on the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution.

National “DNA Warehouse” bill passes – President called upon to veto

This just issued from the Citizens’ Council on Health Care

Yesterday, in a voice vote, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to authorize the creation of a national DNA warehouse and broad-scale genetic research on the American public. S.1858, passed by the U.S. Senate last December, has been sent to the President for signing. According to Twila Brase, president of CCHC:

“We are asking President Bush to veto this unethical, immoral, and unconstitutional bill. Congress has voted to strip citizens of genetic privacy rights and DNA property rights. The bill also violates research ethics and the Nuremberg Code.

What gets me about this bill, is that it was done by voice vote, so there is NO record of who voted for it. How convenient huh?

Votes on Passage

Dec 13, 2007: This bill passed in the Senate by Unanimous Consent. A record of each representative’s position was not kept

Apr 8, 2008: This bill passed in the House of Representatives by voice vote. A record of each representative’s position was not kept.

However it does show the Sponsor and Co-Sponsors; and I’m glad to see that Arizona isn’t on this list:

Sponsor:

Sen. Christopher Dodd [D-CT]

Cosponsorship information sometimes is out of date. Why?

In looking through the full text of the bill, I notice there is NO provision for mandating parental consent. NO provision giving parents the right to ‘opt-out’. This is just going to be part of the screening process on newborns (for now anyway). The short title is: `Newborn Screening Saves Lives Act of 2007‘. However, this title IMPROVED NEWBORN AND CHILD SCREENING FOR HERITABLE DISORDER doesn’t exactly convince me that this bill is strictly newborn screening.

You have to wonder now, about any blood tests you may be getting……are they taking extra for this database? I don’t believe for a minute that these test results won’t be used to either deny someone private health insurance or at the least charge them more for the same coverage.

What seems to be left out here is that just because someone has a gene or “heritable disorder” does not mean they will actually get it, it just means they have a greater chance of getting it. I mean we all have the cancer gene in us, what is unknown – and what they don’t seem to care to find out about – is why that gene is triggered in some people and not in others.

But the key problem with this bill, apart from the ‘national database’, angle is the lack of informed consent being guaranteed. I hate to bring up this comparison, but the only government I know of (without doing any heavy research) that felt that the bodies and health of its citizens belonged to the nation was the Nazi Regime. Are we really going down that path?

We have been fed a diet of fear for decades. That diet of fear has increased tenfold since 9/11 (hence my hating the mention of it these days). It’s like 9/11 is being used as a weapon to get you to submit to their will.

So, how much liberty are you willing to part with just for the illusion of a little temporary safety (of which you will have neither in the end)?

I want my country back!! I refuse to live in a dictatorship quietly! I refuse to be a sheeple!

They can have my liberty when they pry it from my cold, dead hands!!!

  1. Excellent blog. The sad thing is that most of the worlds population doesn’t realise whats happening under their very own noses.

  2. Hi there AussieTargeted, my theory is that everyone has been drugged either by the water, the chemicals in the foods, pharmas, the air. Seems the people who are the most aware are smokers…..must be something in the smoke that protects us? hehehehehe I don’t know about Australia but here in the states everyone has been numbed, dumbed and just flat out scared of everything.
