Wonder Where We Are Heading?

With everything going on these days, some words just keep popping into my head. Just pay attention to the latest and greatest “health” scare…..ooops, sorry, meant report. All of a sudden everyone is a “Public Health Advocate”. Only they are really special interest groups.

Look at the tobacco control group, the war on obesity group, the global warming group, MADD, DARE, and a bazillion other so-called “doing good” organizations. They are no longer fighting to protect anyone, they are waging a war to force everyone else to comply with THEIR beliefs.

Then we have the Department of Homeland Security MANDATING National ID Cards – sorry that is exactly what REAL ID is – and embedding them with RFID chips, same with our passports.

Here’s the words that keep coming to my mind. You might to want to refresh your vocabulary. We are on the road to one of them. Our Constitutional Republic won’t be much longer.

Totalitarianism is a concept used in political science that describes a state that regulates nearly every aspect of public and private behavior. Totalitarian regimes or movements maintain themselves in political power by means of secret police, propaganda disseminated through the state-controlled mass media, personality cults, regulation and restriction of free discussion and criticism, single-party states, the use of mass surveillance, and widespread use of terror tactics.

Oligarchy (Greek λιγαρχία, Oligarkhía) is a form of government where political power effectively rests with a small elite segment of society (whether distinguished by wealth, family or military powers). The word oligarchy is from the Greek words for “few” (λίγον óligon) and “rule” (ρχω arkho). Compare with autocracy (rule by one person) and democracy (rule by the majority). Oligarchy is somewhat similar to aristocracy.

An autocracy is a form of government in which the political power is held by a single self-appointed ruler. The term autocrat is derived from the Greek word autocratic (lit. “self-ruler”, or to: “rule by one’s self”). Compare with oligarchydemocracy (rule by the majority). (literally means rule by the few) and

Today it is usually seen as synonymous with despot, tyrantdictator, though each of these terms originally had a separate and distinct meaning (see their respective articles). and/or

Socialism refers to the goal of a socio-economic system in which property and the distribution of wealth are subject to control by the community.[1] This control may be either direct—exercised through popular collectives such as workers’ councils—or indirect—exercised on behalf of the people by the state. As an economic system, socialism is often characterized by state, worker, or community ownership of the means of production, goals which have been attributed to, and claimed by, a number of political parties and governments throughout history.

Fascism is an authoritarian political ideology (generally tied to a mass movement) that considers the individual subordinate to the interests of the state, party or society as a whole. Fascists seek to forge a type of national unity, usually based on (but not limited to) ethnic, cultural, racial, and/or religious attributes. Various scholars attribute different characteristics to fascism, but the following elements are usually seen as its integral parts: patriotism, nationalism, statism, militarism, totalitarianism, anti-communism, corporatism, populism, collectivism, autocracy and opposition to political and economic liberalism.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

Authoritarianism describes a form of social controlobedience to the authority of a state or organization, often maintaining and enforcing control through the use of oppressive measure. Authoritarian regimes are generally considered to be highly hierarchical.

In an authoritarian form of government, citizens are subject to state authority in many aspects of their lives, including many matters that other political philosophies would see as erosion of civil liberties and freedom.[citation needed] There are various degrees of authoritarianism; even very democratic and liberal states will show authoritarianism to some extent, for example in areas of national security.[citation needed] Usually, an authoritarian government is undemocratic and has the power to govern without consent of those being governed.[citation needed]

  1. Hi, swfreedomlover. Just heard about your blog, and I’m already a big fan. If you don’t mind, I’ve placed it on the Fat Liberation feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/FatLiberation , even though you’re not a Fat Acceptance blog, per se (neither am I — Fat Acceptance is just a natural consequence of my libertarian/Objectivist ideals).

I agree that, given the state of propaganda-laced junk science threatening to corrupt our liberty, we’re on the road to some kind of statism/fascism. When modern liberals are a la carte scientists, taking what facts/statistics suit them and creating a moral panic to push forth their agenda, not only our liberty, but the integrity of skeptical science itself, is in danger.

Cheers and, again, have been enjoying reading the blog.

  2. Big Liberty, thanks for stopping by. Glad you enjoyed the read. Hope you’ll come back. I’ll check out your blog when I get a chance to. I don’t mind you placing my blog somewhere as long as the blog is about tolerance, liberty, freedom, etc…….if it’s a nanny-state blog, I don’t want that kind of traffic 😉 From your comment though I can tell you’d only use appropriate linkage, so thank you for that. We can all use extra traffic to get the word out.

Thanks again and feel free to comment anytime.

  3. LOL — no worries about having a nanny-state blog, sw! I’m a dyed-in-the-wool Objectivist/libertarian; I used to run an online Objectivist magazine (which I discontinued due to a heavy grad school schedule). In fact, I’ve been ostracized by the neo-Progressives in the Fat Liberation movement because I don’t believe in their neo-racism, and socialized medicine…ah, well! 😉
