More Junk Trying To Pass As Science

Have you noticed that everyday there seems to be some “new study” out about the dangers of [insert your favorite fear here]? We have been fed a diet of fear for decades, that has intensified 100% since 9/11/2001.

For me, all this crap is eye rolling “here we go again” bullshit.

You see the easiest way to control people is to have them afraid of something, anything, everything. Then you convince them, in their state of fear, that only you can protect them. I included in a post the other day about the 14 characteristics of Facsism………….THIS is one of them.

I’m sure you’ve all heard how women who have as little as 1 or 2 drinks a day will get breast cancer. Well, the Junkfood Science blog not only disects this piece of bird cage liner, but shows how science these days is done by marketing firms as press releases.

News stories for the bird cage

Does a single drink a day really raise a woman’s risk for breast cancers? That’s what 403 media stories (and counting) have been reporting, based on a new study said to be “the largest of its kind.” But not all studies reported in the news are worth taking seriously or let worry us. Here’s why this one shouldn’t have even registered on our radar.

Since there’s actually no study to review (!), we’ll walk through the news. When would you have changed the television station or tossed the newspaper aside?

Here’s another brilliant gem just out this week too.

Violence on streets linked to drinking in pregnancy

DOUGLAS FRASER, Scottish Political Editor April 17 2008

Violent behaviour in young men is closely linked to drinking in pregnancy by their mothers, according to Scotland’s chief medical officer.

Dr Harry Burns told MSPs yesterday he believes foetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) is a key element in behaviour problems once the babies grow up.

The problems caused by pregnant women drinking are known to include behavioural and learning difficulties as well as constrained growth for the children affected, and the health chief thinks it is directly linked to anti-social behaviour on Scotland’s streets.

Dr Burns has said women should not drink at all while pregnant, though other specialist medical advice has risked confusion with the suggestion that a small amount of drinking may not harm a baby’s health.

The next time you hear about a “new study” as for details, in particular WHERE this study is published so that you can read it for yourself and determine if it’s legitimate or not. People cannot make informed decisions and choices based on junk, someone elses personal preference and press releases.

I say this because the June 2006 Surgeon’s General’s report [here] is practically a fraud. The conclusions in the 727 pages behind the press release, do NOT support the announcement made by the former Surgeon General, Richard Carmona. How do they get away with it? Easy, they assume the public is too lazy to read the whole thing (which you don’t have to do, just go through it and read the conclusion at the end of each chapter, then the conclusions at the end of the whole report), and too stupid to understand “evidence is insufficient to infer”. Apparently they are right since I haven’t heard anyone screaming about this. The closest we come to that report being debunked is the fact that the man quietly left just short of his term being up. He then went to work at some Spa in Tucson, Arizona.

Unfortunately, he is now waging the war against obesity, which we should have seen coming with his 2006 (again) report on Obesity being a bigger threat than terrorism *rolling eyes here* and he’s using almost the same language he used in the war on smoking.

Thomas Jefferson once wrote: “The will of the majority is in all cases to prevail. That will to be rightful must be reasonable; the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression.”

Movements are manifesting all over the place these days, under the banners of “public health”, “for the children”, “terrorism”, against anything that anyone finds the least bit offensive.

WHERE in the Constitution does is state that anyone has an inalienable right to never be offended? WHERE in the Constitution does it claim that discrimination and ostracization of any one group of people is perfectly acceptable as long as the majority doesn’t like what that group is doing?

It doesn’t, and people need to get back to tolerance. If not, I might have to start a movement to ban busy-bodies because I don’t like how they never mind their own business.
