UK and USA Neck-in-Neck in ‘Big Brother’ Race!

As bad as I think things are getting here in the good old U.S. of A., it seems the United Kingdom is way ahead in the game of turning this world into George Orwell’s “1984” novel. More appalling, and perhaps even more criminal is the apathy of the public. WHERE is the outcry against all these intrusions? WHY are people so willing to forfeit their freedom and liberty for an illusion of safety (that the government not only CAN’T provide BUT can’t guarantee either)?

‘Big Brother’ database for phones and e-mails

Don’t think for one moment that this is just the UK doing this. Similar things are in the works here in the US also. Look at the flap going on over the president’s trying to get immunity for the Telecoms for turning over all our phone records to the government without any warrants being issued as required in the FISA Act, all in the name of the “war on terror” of course.

Then there’s the S.1959 bill aptly named the “Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Act of 2007“.

Read the bill, the full text. The definitions are (I’ve bolded the things that stood out for me):

`In this subtitle:

`(1) COMMISSION- The term `Commission’ means the National Commission on the Prevention of Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism established under section 899C.

`(2) VIOLENT RADICALIZATION- The term `violent radicalization’ means the process of adopting or promoting an extremist belief system for the purpose of facilitating ideologically based violence to advance political, religious, or social change.

`(3) HOMEGROWN TERRORISM- The term `homegrown terrorism’ means the use, planned use, or threatened use, of force or violence by a group or individual born, raised, or based and operating primarily within the United States or any possession of the United States to intimidate or coerce the United States government, the civilian population of the United States, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.

`(4) IDEOLOGICALLY BASED VIOLENCE- The term `ideologically based violence’ means the use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual’s political, religious, or social beliefs

Now, to me, ‘planned use’ means just thinking about doing’; ‘coerce or promote, to further an objective’ means convincing others of your ideas. Technically, that makes ME a homegrown terrorist for I am trying to get you all to go back to the Constitution and hold the government in check. This administration doesn’t believe in or abide by the Constitution (except when it actually serves them), and I AM THINKING of how we can do just that, though my preferred way is definitely NON-violent.

And not for nothing but ALL religions basically could be deemed radical also as they ALL have ONE purpose……….convert everyone to their belief system and if you can’t force everyone through laws to submit to your IDEALOGICAL way of living. Let us also not forget all those ‘Special Interest Groups’ out there, posing as caring and concerned public health advocates, etc. They’d all be classified as radical as well. I mean PETA and some Pro-Life groups are already violent! Guess they’ll be taken down under this bill should it pass. And if they’re not, I’ll make it my mission to be sure they are because I don’t believe that anyone person or group has a right to force their beliefs on anyone. I don’t give a flying fart in space who you are………………you have NO RIGHT to tell anyone else how to live their life and what decisions they are allowed to make for themselves.

Here are the findings of the bill (I’ve bolded the ones that stand out for me):

`The Congress finds the following:

`(1) The development and implementation of methods and processes that can be used to prevent violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence in the United States is critical to combating domestic terrorism.

`(2) The promotion of violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence exists in the United States and poses a threat to homeland security.

`(3) The Internet has aided in facilitating violent radicalization, ideologically based violence, and the homegrown terrorism process in the United States by providing access to broad and constant streams of terrorist-related propaganda to United States citizens.

This alone tells you that they WILL find a way to make sure they limit our internet access, or at the least monitor all of it. And then they talk about China NOT allowing it’s citizens to access all of the internet? Talk about hypocritical!

`(4) While the United States must continue its vigilant efforts to combat international terrorism, it must also strengthen efforts to combat the threat posed by homegrown terrorists based and operating within the United States.

`(5) Understanding the motivational factors that lead to violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence is a vital step toward eradicating these threats in the United States.

The ONLY motivational factors that do this are an overbearing, totalitarian governement and religions. In other words, people LIKE being free and will fight to retain their freedoms. The more laws you pass the less free people are. Like this is brain surgery they can’t figure it out?

`(6) The potential rise of self radicalized, unaffiliated terrorists domestically cannot be easily prevented through traditional Federal intelligence or law enforcement efforts, and requires the incorporation of State and local solutions.

Does anyone else see the potential for the Constitution being totally shredded and trashed here? Am I the only one who sees how dangerous this particular statement can be?

`(7) Individuals prone to violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence span all races, ethnicities, and religious beliefs, and individuals should not be targeted based solely on race, ethnicity, or religion.

`( 8 ) Any measure taken to prevent violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence and homegrown terrorism in the United States should not violate the constitutional rights, civil rights, or civil liberties of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents.

`(9) Certain governments, including the Government of the United Kingdom, the Government of Canada, and the Government of Australia have significant experience with homegrown terrorism and the United States can benefit from lessons learned by those nations.

Notice that number 8 only states that any measure taken SHOULDN’T violate the constitution and civil rights/liberties of US citizens and legal permanent residents. Talk about a loop hole big enough to drive a freight train through. All they have to do is legislate away your civil rights and liberties and they are free to do what they want. Had this bill been truly intended to “protect” number 8 would have been an iron-clad “any measure taken WILL NOT violate…”! The use of the word “shouldn’t” renders us unprotected from gestapo-like tactics.

So, how much longer are we really going to tolerate this nonsense?

  1. YOu think that’s bad, you should read

They are taking a 15 year old to court because he described Scientology as a “cult” on a placard during a peaceful demonstration.

~snip~ Officers have confiscated the placard, and a case file has been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The incident happened during a protest against the Church of Scientology on May 10. The police decided that the word “CULT” was “abusive and insulting”.~snip~

  2. OMG……… really is George Orwell’s “1984” coming to life.

    Scotty….beam me up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
